Class and Workshop Teachers at
the Middendorf Institute for Breathexperience



JUERG ROFFLER is a close associate of Prof. Ilse Middendorf. Trained at her Institute in Berlin, he taught there for many years before he came to the U.S. In 1991 he founded the Middendorf Institute for Breathexperience of San Francisco. In 2001 the Institute moved to Berkeley, CA where Juerg currently trains practitioners in the Middendorf form of The Experience Breath. He also maintains a private practice in Berkeley, and teaches workshops all over the world. Juerg is the director of the U.S. Middendorf Training Program and has developed the Partnership and Breathexperience in Relationship Program.



MARGOT BIESTMAN is a certified practitioner of Middendorf Breathwork, member of the teaching staff of the Middendorf Institute for Breathexperience, and has a private practice in Sausalito and The Sea Ranch. She is also an author and artist, and teaches classes in Creative Living. She has extensive experience in education with people from ages 3-93.


FAITH HORNBACHER is a certified practitioner of Middendorf Breathwork, member of the teaching staff of the Middendorf Institute for Breathexperience, and has a private practice in Palo Alto. She is also a certified practitioner of Aston-Patterning, and has been in practice for 25 years. She is an artist and has illustrated books in the field of health education.



NELL SMYTH is a certified practitioner of Middendorf Breath work and a member of the teaching staff of the Middendorf Institute in Berkeley. She works both in Europe and the States and has particular expertise in working with children and teachers in a variety of settings. Her book The Breathing Circle is being published by Hawthorn Press and will be available in early 2006. She is currently writing her next book on breath and theater arts as integrative in school curricula.



Professor ILSE MIDDENDORF originated and developed Middendorf Breathwork, she is a regular guest teacher at the institute. Other certified Middendorf teachers from Europe and the United States also frequently visit to teach classes and assist in the trainings.


Margot and Juerg are members of the Board of Directors of The Breath Center of Berkeley, a non-profit organization for the advancement of Middendorf Breathwork in the U.S.
